Lilburn, Georgia is the peak of small town life. It was named by the Seaboard Air Line Railway after the general superintendent, Lilburn Trigg Myers. Though it was founded in 1890 and officially made a city in 1910, its history goes back to the early 1800s and the Camp Creek Primitive Baptist Church that was founded in 1823 is still in use now. Of course, any small Southern town isn’t complete without numerous churches, of which Salem Baptist and First Baptist Lilburn are just a couple.
Not every town still has an operational railroad but Lilburn’s runs every day beside the municipal building. Behind the municipal building is City Park, the biggest park in town. At 10 acres it holds a playground, bandshell, tennis courts, and a lighted path to keep you on course after dusk. The Camp Creek Greenway begins in City Park and boasts walking trails that cover 4.2 miles and has rest areas, gardens, a park of its own, boardwalks, bridges and lets out into numerous points in the neighborhood. If you’re looking for a park with a little more action, the 72 acre Bryson Park is right off of Lawrenceville Highway and has a sand volleyball court, outdoor basketball courts, a playground, pavilion, a small walking trail that measures in at a half mile, football fields, multi-purpose fields with lighted tracks, and two soccer fields. Lions Club Park is also in the area and offers yet another set of great activities to explore.
All of this activity might make you want to relax a bit and no fear, Lawrenceville has it all. Most of the action is located along Highway 29. Readers will delight in the Book Nook and there are small boutiques and shops offering unique items to be found throughout. The food covers the entire globe so whether you’re in the mood for some pho, pizza, Mediterranean, pub, or Indian food, if you want it, Lilburn has it. Among the stand outs are Messina’s Mediterranean Cuisine, 1910 Public House, and Have Restaurant & Lounge.
