Houses For Sale in Miami, FL 33131

Miami is one of the country’s best vacation destinations, but when it comes to settling down, it’s also a great place to live. Once inhabited by indigenous cultures, Miami is known today for it’s breathtaking beaches, perfect winter weather and lively downtown area. Not just a party town, Miami is a hub of artistic innovation with a diverse cultural landscape to explore.

After being under the control of Spain and Great Britain, the United States acquired Florida in 1821. Miami was primarily developed for the opportunity to grow citrus by a Cleveland native, Julia Tuttle. Tuttle was dubbed “the mother of Miami”, for her part in incorporating it as a city. The Julia Tuttle Causeway, a highway that passes over the Biscayne Bay, is named for her. Nicknamed “The Magic City” Miami’s thriving economy has enabled the city to grow and expand rapidly over the course of the past 100 years.

Miami is made up of many bold, vibrant neighborhoods varying in size and affordability. The famous Art Deco District is home to artists and bohemians, offering an array of clubs, restaurants, and galleries with a 1930s feel. Coconut Grove, a neighborhood that claims to be "a quaint drinking village with a fishing problem,” is popular for it’s tree-lined Cocowalk, with a variety of shops, restaurants, boutiques and coffee shops. Other popular areas include Miami Beach’s Ocean Drive, Espanola Way, Lincoln Road, and Washington Avenue.

For residents and visitors looking to get out of the city, Everglades National Park is closeby. The oceanfront location of the city also offers activities such as boating and fishing. The town is home to generations of American and Spanish families, as the second largest U.S. city with a high population of Spanish speakers. Drastically different from most American cities, Miami is an adventurous, fast-paced city with a lot to offer.
