The City of Gardena, located in the heart of the beautiful South Bay, was incorporated in 1930. Formally known as "Berryland" because farming was Gardena’s main industry early in the twentieth century, though berries, especially strawberries, were its claim to fame. Gardena was renowned for its Strawberry Day Festival and parade every May. The berry industry dwindled with World War I, when land was used first for other crops and then later for development. Gardena is now known as the "Freeway City" because of its close proximity to multiple freeways such as the 91, 405 and 110. This makes Gardena easily accessible but also a great, affordable and family friendly community. Gardena offers many amenities such as quality restaurants, it's close to beaches and LAX, offers plenty of shopping and hosts the annual Gardena Jazz Festival featuring top artists. There are also two casinos located in the city that provide additional entertainment. Gardena is just a short drive to the new football stadium in Inglewood, but still far enough away so that it won't be impacted by the Sunday afternoon games. Because of the many current and future development opportunities within the City, Gardena has seen a rise in new home developments and businesses. Gardena's growth opportunities have created economic stability in the community making it attractive new businesses, investors and home buyers alike.
