I am a native North Carolinian from Winston Salem NC which is approximately 1 hour from Lake Norman. In the mid 70's while in high school we would travel to Mooresville to spend days on the lake. We recall that all that existed was a Hardee's which was on what is now thriving highway 150. There was nothing else to do by swim boat or visit the bait shops that had sprung up.
